Andalusia postpone the partial lockdown

Yesterday, the President of the Junta de AndalucĂa, Juanma Moreno, extended the perimetral confinement of the region. Andalusia postpone the partial lockdown until 10th December 2020. This also means that the long-awaited bank holiday weekend will be disrupted.

This extended weekend was especially longed for this year since the two bank holidays fell on each side of the weekend, providing Andalusians days off. A perfect time to do their Christmas shopping. Instead, everyone is asked to stay home.

New economic blow for the tourist industry

Not only is it hard for the entire population but it is also another huge economic blow for restaurants, bars, hotels and holiday homes in Malaga. These festive dates are usually crucial as they attract lots of people, locals and foreigners alike. The restrictions will certainly be felt in Malaga around the renowned Calle Larios Christmas decorations. It will feel deserted compared to the 2 million people who usually flock to streets during the Christmas season.

Unchanged restrictions

The perimetral closure of the region has been extended to the 10th December 2020 with virtually no change in terms of restrictions. All shops, bars, restaurants must close at 18:00 and supermarkets and pharmacies can remain open until 22:00. The only small change to be noted is that toy stores are now allowed to stay open until 20:00. There is still a stay-home curfew in place between 22:00 - 07:00. The city of Granada is still completely closed down. Many surrounding towns are starting to reopen under the same restrictions as the rest of Andalusia.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 is falling

Even though Andalusia postpone the partial lockdown. The good news is that the number of people infected with Coronavirus in Andalusia is declining as a result of the current restrictions. All of Spain imposed a state of emergency on 25 October, leaving it to regional governments to tighten up the measures at a local level. The highest number of infections recorded in one day in Andalusia was on October 30th with 5,622 infected. At the time of writing, the number is 1,455 - a clear improvement.
