The COVID-19 pandemic is still causing major problems in Spain and now Andalucia confirms partial lockdown. The southern region of Andalusia is now introducing tougher restrictions to curtail the curve of coronavirus infections.
As of tomorrow, folks will only be able to leave the municipality they live in to go to work or if they hold a special permit. In the last 24 hours, Andalusia has registered 3,700 new cases which has prompted the local authorities to ask everyone to stay at home.
On October 25, 2020, Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez declared, for the second time this year. A state of emergency in the entire country. The state of emergency is the only way that the central government can legally set a unified course of action in terms of the response against COVID-19 in the entire nation. The state of emergency is initially due to last until May 9, 2021. The central government issued a number of restrictions that the 17 autonomous regions must follow, among other things, a maximum of 6 people gatherings in private homes, and a curfew between 22:00 and 07:00. The autonomous regions, however, were granted the flexibility to move the curfew back or forth by one hour.
Yesterday, Andalusian President Juanma Moreno called for new restrictions for the residents of southern Spain and Andalucia confirms partial lockdown. From tomorrow, Tuesday 10 November 2020, you can no longer leave your municipality without a permit. You can go to work, but if you are stopped, you must present a permit issued by your employer. All shops, boutiques, restaurants and bars must close at 18:00. Only activities considered as essential such as doctors, hospitals, dentists, pharmacies etc are allowed to stay open past 18:00. In Granada, a province that seems especially afflicted by the virus, it has been decided that everything should remain closed throughout the day except for the aforementioned essential activities and supermarkets.
No schools are affected by the restriction order and therefore you can still send your children to school. Universities and other educational centers will provide online remote education during the partial lockdown period. The lockdown period is initially set for 14 days until 24 November 2020.
